As her reputation grows she is much in demand at other major shows and in the last couple of years she will have judged at
The Chelsea Flower Show
The Hampton Court Flower Show
The Tatton Park Flower dshow
The Harrogate Spring Show
The Shrewsbury Show
The Southport Show
The Surrey Area Show
The Cheshire Show
The Lincolnshire Show
The Malvern Spring Gardening Show
The BBO Area show at the Blenheim Palace Garden Show
The East of England Area show
Yet there is still time for her greatest thrill of helping local shows set their schedules and then judging the results (with lots of those famous comment cards) encouraging the grass roots to work with flowers without which the top echelons would not exist
Margaret was previously the Chair of the RHS Floristry and Flower Arranging sub-committee with responsibility for the evolution of competition rules and for ensuring that standards of the coveted Gold medals are maintained both in flower arranging and everywhere else through the RHS shows where floral displays are entered. She regularly judged at the major RHS shows for over 15 years at Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton Park and Cardiff as well as the other regular London based RHS shows.
Most pleasure comes for competitor meetings after judging where she debriefs their result with each entrant individually and helps them to understand what might improve their rating.
Margaret is a leading authority in the UK on the use of plant material in floral designs and arrangements. She is qualified as a National Judge by NAFAS and also is an accredited Adjudicator for Judges acting at the NAFAS National Test for Judges. In 2008 she passed the examinations and tests to be accredited as a National Instructor for Judges Training Days. She sits on the NAFAS National Judging committee playing a major role in setting and maintaining professional standards throughout the organisation
In 2002 she was invited to judge at the World Association of Flower Arrangers Show in Glasgow and she also judged the NAFAS National Show in Edinburgh in 1999 before her commitment to the Show management prevented further judging at these competitions. She recently judged at the National Show in Bournemouth
She is well known for her vast knowledge of plant material and also for her extensive use of comment cards for all competitors and her preparedness to meet them to explain her decisions and to help them improve for next time no matter how well they have done.
